Normand is a retired insurance executive and self-taught photographer. His experience in photography began with slides and negative film in the 1980’s while working and residing in Basking Ridge, New Jersey. His work was exhibited in the Dunellen-Green Brook, Plainfield, Raritan, and Madison Art Shows as a member of the Central New Jersey Art League. Awards were bestowed by the East Brunswick Arts Commission and the Dunellen-Green Brook show as well as local contests conducted by various sponsors.
A hiatus from participating in shows and exhibits concluded with immersion into the realm of digital photography. With the ability to print photographs and employ darkroom techniques with computer software, Normand's photographs now enjoyed a tighter synchronization with the actual view-through-the-lens, and a more satisfying product. This rejuvenation has sparked more interest in art show participation and gallery exhibits.
The portfolio subject matter is diverse, but devoted mostly to New England scenes, especially landscapes and seascapes. Lighthouses, barns and covered bridges attract the most attention. Using lighting, shadows, composition and shot angle, the purpose in taking each photograph is to capture the essence of the subject, accomplished with either the use of color, black and white, or both.
